RUSSIA TRIP SUMMER (2015) Day 2

Moscow is always electrifying for me

I slept around midnight after long conversation with Sergey and searched for new place to stay. I woke up at 04.40 Moscow time and Nobody’s still at their up-time. I knew that the usage of toilet would be very crazy in the morning, everybody would wake up at the same time and need the toilet at the same time. Imagine! For about 20 people with 2 toilets (toilets and bathroom were at one place), it would be a nightmare for me if I were at the urgent state. Surprisingly, the toilet was clean and good enough. I enjoyed my 30 minutes without disturbing. And then suddenly somebody knocked the door to let me do fast. “Damn, it is 5.10 and everybody has woke up” I said to myself. I got my defecation faster that it was supposed to be and got my body showered with hot running water. The place, even crowded, was convenient enough to take a shower. Unfortunately, I could not get that privilege at that time. I signed out from the bathroom and yes, everybody had woke up. I walked ambling pass them, and I met Sergey, yes he again.

“did you find new place for you? I think this hostel is not good for you, you can see there! Many people waiting for toilet, only 2 toilets for 20 people. That’s awful. If it weren’t this cheap i would not stay here.” He said to me. Well, he was kind of right, everybody had no option but the cheapest place to stay. This hostel was for like dormitory for labors for construction rather than for travelers. I packed all my bags and ready to leave. But, I needed breakfast. I went kitchen and I met tall, kinky, white, quiet guy. He cooked Kasha, a Russian porridge. He stared at seconds at me then he continued eating. I boiled my Indomie and while preparing it I looked at him.

“Dobroe Utra! Good morning” I greeting him, and he was just nothing to respond. Well, I thought that I pronounced my Russian very bad so he didn’t understand. My indomie was ready and I brought my Indonesian tea with me which I shared with Sergey that time, nobody else in the kitchen, everybody was busy with toilet matters, Sergey, that time, had to leave at 10.00 so he had time no need to rush. He told me that I could with him again anytime I came back to Moscow, we exchanged our vkontakte account so we could reach each other easily, for Moldova purpose.

I bid a farewell to the receptionish who gave my money back for one night, as I paid for 2 nights stay. I walked across buildings to get my new hostel. It was said only 300meters away from Frukt hostel.
Hostel Garden

5/9, Moscow, Rusia,

Well, that address was just right the corner. I tried to get my hostel. Again, I found trouble. The door was actually behind the building where I had idea how to reach at the first time. I found the way and the gate was locked and it required me to have an access key to open the gate or somebody opened it from inside. Standing for 5 minutes then a guy asked me where I needed to go, I told him I needed to go to the garden hostel. He opened for me and the hostel was convenient, it was just at the first floor, how convenient it was!

party alone at 8-beds dorm
I knocked the door and the receptionist opened for me, and the receptionist was the tall, kinky, white, quiet guy I met in hostel. I was surprised how could he worked in this hostel but he loved in different hostel. That was long story I already got the answer but the answer for not from day 2. He could speak little English, so we talked in Russian-english. The hostel charged me 750RUB (well, almost triple than frukt hostel), but the condition was totally different with frukt hostel, the hostel was clean, very nice and nobody stayed there, I was the only guest that time. I paid him and gave the deposit I should give for 100RUB. I got my bed in 8-beds mixed dormitory, and the condition was amazing, like the hostel in Yerevan, very good.

So time to work on my visa registration! Well, actually NO!! What?? Yes another problem arrived! I moved to pricier hostel because of this matter. I asked him, his name is Vladimir, yes Vladimir, very Russian name, about visa registration, what was the answer? He had no idea about that. Oh I got another problem, he had no idea he just browsed how to do it and asked me to do. I told him that the hostel had to do it, but he refused to do, he just gave me the confirmation of stay and the phone number of the hostel, I needed to go myself to the immigration, which is about 500 meters away from the hostel.

After long argue I still did not get the answer, there was another guy, a Caucasus look. He asked me and, yes he was more fun that Vladimir, but more aggressive.
“Hey Man, what’s your problem? We cannot register your visa, you must do it by yourself, Volodya must stay here, he cannot leave the hostel.” He said

“Okay, then You go with me as you are working too in this hostel to the immigration!” I insisted
“No man, I cannot help, I need to go to do another work, so you must do it yourself! We never register the visa here.” He answered. My hope was gone. Then I asked Volodya to print me the map to go to Immigration office also to copy my passport and visa and all the papers needed, he at first asked me for 100RUB, I said no to him, well I was quite rude with higher voice. I got all the documents and ready to proceed to Immigration office ALONE.

It was sunny summer, at 11.00 weather was good, around 16 C. everybody looked so happy and Moscow was amazingly beautiful, yet I couldn’t enjoy it as I needed to get this thing all done. This time, it was easy because the building was a single building and number attached on the wall written immigration office. I entered the building, and it sounded nothing, no activity. There was an old security asked me what I needed to do. I said to him Visa matter. He let me in.

Then somebody pointed me to get to room at left. I entered and surprised, so many people here. They were all Russian bringing pasports, a lot of foreign pasports with them, I assumed they were agents to register for some fee. I should have contacted them so I had more time to explore the city. There was no good queue system, everybody could go anytime they wanted. I let them do it first I read all the information written there. And everything was in Russian and I understood nothing.
The lady at the vacant counter called me, because nobody else waited and it was about for lunch time. She was typical Russian lady, no smile, cold sight , and unfriendly at all.
“I need to register my visa, here all the papers for you to check!” I surrendered my papers to her.
She spoke Russian that I didn’t understand at all
“RUSSKIY NYET, NYE PONIMAYU! NO RUSSIAN, I DON’T INDERSTAND!” I told her
Well, she then said something that I interpreted that I had to leave, he asked me to go out, he kept gave my papers back. I really had no idea what she said, she might have said that not me to go, but the owner of place that I was staying to register my visa.
I walked without result, but the weather was really good, I couldn’t be that sad. But I was still that sad because I worried if I didn’t register my visa I would be deported and paid hefty fine or I could not enter Russia for 5 years. I still walked and walked, then I stoped in MTS, an cellular provider to buy SIM card. The seller was a pretty girl, she looked like from the far east part of Russia. She told me that the card could work in entire Russian Federation, with internet data plan and I got one free SIM card. I paid for 500RUB and another 500RUB for top up. She was really helpful to set up everything and register to the system. And from that time , I had Russian phone number. I walked back home, still sadly.
Volodya then told me that I didn’t need to register if I stayed less 7 days. I told them that I would stay for 30 days n Russia, and he then he told me, not 7 days in each city. I was quite unsure about what he told me, but at that time was a bit relief, worry-free about my visa. I went to my bed and enjoye the good bed for a while and I met the another guy.
“hey!” I greeted him
“Hey, where are you from? Sorry I speak bad English.” He taked to me like a swag, Russian swag. I cooked my another Indonemie as walking that “far” took all my energy.
“You don’t look like a Russian, are you from Azerbaijan or Dagestan?” I asked him, not seriously, just for fun.
“No Azerbaijan bro, I am Armenian, My home town is in Artsakh, you know? “ he again talked like swag
“Artsakh, of course, that’s Nagorno Karabakh. I was there last summer, it was Azerbaijan right? So You are Azeri, not Armenian! Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan land! Hehehe “ I made fun of him. (P.S. I had no any intention talking about this, if somebody feel offensive, I am sorry, but I am neither in Armenia nor Azerbaijan part, that’s was fully to tease him, nothing else)
“No, Artsakh is Armenia! You are so funny bro, I am Georgiy, nice to see you!”
Then I went for small nap after so tired as I had a rendezvous with my friend in Red square at the evening.

Finally I met my friend, Daria. She had worked in Jakarta for a year before he moved to Portugal and back to Moscow. We were good friend back in Jakarta, till date anyway. We talked a lot about our updates. She took me around the red square (well, I had been there, twice on winter) but summer was very good, Beautiful view. I enjoyed so much the company and Moscow at night. But, I was another sad, my camera was broken, the lens, because I unintentionally dropped my camera and it was broken. I could not snap good pictures of Moscow, but I still managed to get some. I had another problem to fix this, as I had no budget for that, WHY PROBLEMS KEEP ON COMING?
blurred!!! me and Dasha
We finished at 22.00 we bid adieu and I forgot my wallet, I was so shocked, and I was so helpless. All my money and cards were there, how could I was so careless. I was unsure that I left my wallet in hostel. But I tried to convince myself that the wallet was in hostel. Darya paid for my metro ride for 50RUB, thank you. What a long day, which actually very short. I run to my hostel and fortunately my wallet just laid peacefully, as nobody stayed there.

Day 2 continued and day 3 next :

My Summer Russia Trip (2015) Day 1

After a long haul flight (11 hours) and long layover in Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), I finally arrived in Domodedovo International Airport (DME) in Moscow at 15.00 local time. I was in Moscow's another airport before (in SVO, Sheremetyevo) and definitely DME was more crowded than SVO, and bigger. I, like usual, proceeded to immigration. It was unbelievably long queue (I assumed because it was summer holiday). It took me about 45 minutes to get myself to the officer, I handed my passport and the officer looked deeply and examined my passport. Suddenly, he asked another off-duty officer to check my passport, i was so afraid if anything happened, even I knew i followed all the regulations.
“Hey look at this passport! His name is SUKA” Said the in-duty officer
Another officer looked at me, he tried to laugh but he kept it. They all spoke in Russian, unfortunately I understood basic Russian. Suka in Russian means bitch, they laughed at my name. The officer still tried to laugh hard, he gave my passport back and I tried to show my Russian,
“Eta vsyo? Spasiba. A eta mayo imya, suko!”
It means “That’s all? Thank you. Anyway, that’s my name, Suko!” I walked confidently tried to not glaze at his face. After few steps forward I realized that I should have not done this, I was so scared that they would catch and abduct me because I was “rude” to the immigration officer. Then I just walked a bit faster to claim my luggage in conveyor, 50 minutes was enough to let my bags without having long wait to claim it.
I got my ticket for Aeroexpress to connect to city. I met another traveler, he was American, yeah we have seated next to each other, talked randomly then we parted in Paveletskaya Metro station without having name on each other, yes traveller with no string attached. I tried to figure out how to reach my booked hostel, it was in Ulitsa Staraya Basmannaya. After few researches I figured out how to reach there, by mighty METRO, yes almost all places in Moscow is reachable my Metro. The nearest station was Kurskaya Metro station, which was only two stations away from paveletskaya.
I got the ulitsa Staraya Basmannaya. I remembered the location was closed to the intersection. I expected that there would be a sign to tell the hostel, but hell no, no sign to help. I was confused how to read the address in Russia, I checked all the building, but I couldn’t find no. 13. The search lasted 45 minutes I got around and around, until there was an old man asked me to where I need to go, he approached me and spoke in Russian
“hey young man, Where do you want to go?” asked the old man
“Ulitsa Staraya Basmannaya 13, Frukt Hostel.” I promptly replied with showing the address to him.
He examined and said,”Oh I never heard that hostel name, but the street is right here,”
“Damn, where then I should stay for this cold summer.” I said that in myself tried to show a confident façade to him, I tried to not give up to find. He then found a clear and nice idea
“That’s the telephone number, let me call them.” He offered his kind for me. I was so helpless to say thanks to him. The conversation was good and he just took me to the right building and called the hotel receptionist to open the door, yes I was mingling in the wrong building. Thanks to old man helping me, I had no chance to ask his name, but I hope he is fine anywhere anytime he is.
HOSTEL FRUKT, or Хостел Фрукт or Hostel fruit in English, was located at 7th floor, fortunately there was an elevator to take me there. I arrived and were surprised that there were so many shoes, I assumed that there were so many tourists staying there, because it was cheap, only 275RUB/night in 10-beds mixed dormitory. I asked, in English, about my bed, nobody understood English, It was another surprised how could hostel with full occupancy not knowing English. I tried with my broken Russian, and he understood and took me to my bed. There was few people with Asian look, I thought they were somebody from China. Actually, the receptionist who could speak English was away.
The room was basic,  bed with linen, and shared toilet and bathroom with kitchen. It had also locker to keep my “valuable” belongings. I was so hungry that time, I asked for the password for the front door, the immediately left to find foods.
I walked to the main street as I saw some restaurants near the Kurskaya metro on my way to hostel, I let myself go there for the foods. There were many restaurants there, as Indonesian, I ventured inside the shopping mall-like to find restaurant, yes there were many food selections. I needed rice that time and I was pretty sure no restaurant would serve rice in Russia (Yes, Most of Russians that I met hate Rice, while it was my heavenly delicious staple). I went to fried chicken restaurant. I seated myself and asked for menu. Examining the menu was very hard, the price was so hefty, I chose the wrong restaurant. I ordered one of the cheapest menu there, ordinary fried chicken with fries and coke. It cost me about 600RUB (Almost three time higher than my hostel). I ate them like I meant it, because it was very expensive for me, I spent more than my meal budget (If I had known that, I would have better cooked my Indomie in the hostel). I ate all and made sure I didn’t leave anything worth to eat. It was cold, about +7 C, yes I didn’t expect for that temperature for summer, well that was Russia anyway.
I roamed around checked some parks and tried to get used to the streets. I spent 1 hour in park nearby, it was not park just place to sit, Tsezarya KunikovaI. Enjoy the sunset at as late as 21.00. I decided to go back to hostel to sleep and ask for the OVIR immigration (well, in Russia we are required to register to OVIR/Immigration if we plan to stay 7 days in the country).
I Successfully opened the door, went straight to 7th floor, and another surprise hit me when entered the room, so many people there. I realized that they were not Chinese, they were from somewhere in Central Asia. I tried to smile to them and they were curious about it. Then one guy who could speak excellent English came to ask me
“Hey, are you chinese? Vietnamese? For tourist?” He asked me
“No, I am Indonesian. I am here yes for tourist.” I answered as he asked. The condition was creeping me out. I was like in the camp for Gulag during soviet Era. It was really scary, I was around central Asian people and several Russian people who had very firm jaw and cold smile.
“The receptionist is not here yet, but he will come. What do you need?” he asked me again.
“I need to register my visa and hostel where I am staying must do it for me.” I replied
“Really? I never know about that, I don’t think we can do it for you. But let’s wait for the receptionist, he will come in 30 minutes. I am Sergey, what’s your name?”
“I am Zhuko (not to mention suko to avoid the misunderstanding).”
I had read some articles about central Asian people or from South Caucasus coming to Moscow to work in construction, and I saw them myself with very bad conditions, or they were much better than others they said. There was an uzbekh guy, I forgot the name, he was 20 years old tried to speak to me in English he learnt when he was in school. I understood some then he suddenly switched to speaking Russian to me when he realized I could understand basic Russian, which was not adequate for conversation. Overall, he was happy to talk with foreigner and how he told me he was new in Moscow, about a week here and he was working in construction, and how lucky he was because he could find job after 3 days in Moscow, while others had to wait months to get job. He was really nice guy, with friendly smile and when he knew i would fly to Kyrgyzstan after Russia he was so happy and wishing me for having great time there as he really wanted to travel as i did also, but he had no chance. I hope he is healthy enough and he can reach his dream now.
I was so bored that time, nobody I could really talk to, then I remembered about Sergey, I went out and started having conversation with sergey.
“Do you know country name Transniestra? I really want visit that country, and also to visit Moldova. Ah, but visa was not easy for me.” I said to him
“Moldova? Really? You really want to visit Moldova and Transniestra? Well, Good luck!” he said in very strong Russian accent.
“What’s wrong? I heard the wine was amazing, have you been there?”
“Actually, I am Moldovan, and I am working here in Russia. Well, my parents are in Moldova, and I have two passports, moldova and Russia. It is very hard to live in Moldova, but yes it is beautiful. I can help you if you really want to visit Moldova.” He responded me. That really surprised me when I talked about moldova and he was Moldovan actually. The conversation lasted longer until the receptionist came.
“hey, how to register my visa here?” I asked
“No, sorry we cannot help registering your visa. You’d better find some other places to ask, we really cant help and we will not do that.” He answer.
I was upset and then, “Hey, it is your responsibility to register any foreigners staying in your hostel, if not they will not prolong your permit for hostel!” I tried to scare him, but I actually the one who was very scared.
“Sorry, man! We never do it and we will not do it. You can change your mind, I will return your money for tomorrow stay if you decide to go.” He answered me. “yes zhuko, we can’t help you, it’s better you find other place to stay!.” Surgey advised me to do so.
Sergey was another nice people i met in Russia, despite his cold sight, he had very sincere smile and he was smart. He told me that he was an english university graduate and he was an owner of big car wash business in Moldova and somewhere in Moscow, he had had good life before with good girlfriend and how he told me about his last trip to Egypt and Turkey with his girlfriend before he broke up with, and how upset he was that time till date he could not move on but the girl had found another boy. Then teh economy condition was bad, he couldn't run his business anymore. He had loaned with his friends and he needed to pay all his loan and he worked in Car wash.
sunset in Moscow during summer
I was helpless that time and tried to find nearby place to stay. The sergey advised me to stay nearby hostel with had much better condition and proper for tourist as he told me that this hostel was for worker who planned to stay very long, at least a month and he had stayed there for 5 months already, he pretty much knew anybody there.
I couldn’t sleep but tried to find better location to stay and the first day and night in Russia was awful with that creepy conditions but I met nice and friendly people already, and I had fallen in love with russia that time despuite i was still scared about my visa.

2. VISA PAKISTAN
Inilah hal yang membuat gue setres (tapi ga se-setres gue mikirin skripsi gue yang ga jadi-jadi). Cari ke seluruh google mengenai lamaran visa ke pakistan, baik bahasa Indonesia, inggris, jawa, russia, tiongkok, thai, bahkan bahasa kalbu geu cari tidak juga mampu menjelaskan bagaimana cara membuat visa pakistan (Atau mungkin otak gue ga mampu menerjemahkan informasi-informasi tersebut).

Beranilah gue telpon kedutaan pakistan.

(G) gue, (E) kedutaan
tuttt... tuttttt... tuttt (telepon berdering)
E: Pakistan embassy, what can I help?
G: Mbak saya mau nanya tentang visa (langsung gue tembak pake bahasa Indonesia, enak aja tinggal di jakarta pakai bahasa inggris)
E: Oh sebentar saya sambungkan ke bagian Konsular ya! (Eh ternyata mbaknya orang Indonesia)
E: Haloo....
G: Hello sir. I want to apply visa to pakistan. What the documents I need to submit
E: JEBFWBCJWBCCBAKJBCOWUFGJACB (Pake bahasa inggris yang cepet banget dengan aksen Pakistan yang kental yang ga gue paham, inggris amerika aja yang sering gue denger masih ha ha he he, apalagi kayak gini)
G: Sorry sir?
................................................. end

Pokoknya tuh percakapan pakai bahasa inggris panjang.

3. SKCK (pas gue telpon ga dikasih tau, tapi pas datang ke kedutaan suruh melampirkan tapi gue tolak karena gue telpon ga disuruh ngasih, terus gue bilang gue ngeyel ga bisa ngasih, akhirnya mas-mas resepsionis ngalah)
4. Rekening koran kalau kita yang membiayai perjalanan kita sendiri (Gue sih cuma pake rekening tabungan, ga tau berapa nominalnya, tapi yg ada di tabungan gue itu 10juta, duit umat alias pinjem banyak temen biarr ngendap banyak pas diprint buku tabungan)
5. Itinerary (ini sih gue yang bikin biar kedutaan tau kemana aja gue bakal pergi, gue tulis kota-kota yang ama aja, walaupun belum tentu gue kesana, yang penting bikin aja)

bagaimana dengan TIKET PESAWAT?? Dan MEREKA TIDAK MENANYAKAN ITU , tetapi gue lampirkan. Gue Apply Visa-nya 2 minggu sebelum pesawat gue. DAN MEREKA BILANG GA JANJI BAKAL ISSUE VISA GUE. dan gue dengan ga tau malunya bilang "pliss grant me a visa before my flight, my ticket is confirmed already). Mungkin karena gue sudah punya tiket pesawat jadi mereka kasihan kali ya ga mau kasih visa ke gue.

selesai dong masalah? Oh tidakkkk, masalah kembali muncul sodara-sodara!!!!!
SURAT UNDANGAN GUE DITOLAK SAMA PETUGAS NAMANYA M. NAVEED. Itu pihak kedutaan Pakistan ya (sorry i mentioned your name). JREEEENGGGGG Keringat dingin gueeeee! seperti lagunya Demi Lovato gue, FROZEN HEART ATTACK! Terus gue juga ditanya-tanyai ga penting, mulai dari kenapa gue punya duit lah, mahasiswa kok jalan-jalan mulu, passport gue yang udah banyak cap-nya lah, hampir 45 menit gue ditanya-tanya ga jelas. Akhirnya si Bang Naveed tadi ngasih emailnya ke gue suruh ngirim Surat Undangan ke email beliau. Gue sih OK2 aja.

OIYA KALO UDAH SURUH BAYAR BERARTI VIS AKITA 100% BAKAL DITERIMA.
Gue kesana lagi, visa diambil pukul 4.30-5 sore saja, dan gue langsung denh dikasih tanpa basa-basi.
YEAYYY AKHIRNYA VISA PAKISTAN NEMPEL DI PASPORT GUE.

Pokoknya kalau kesana lo semua harus yakin jawabannya terserah ngasal atau apa, jangan kelihatan bo'ong. tenang dan senyum saja kalo ditanya macam-macam.

kalau ada pertanya, bisa langsung kesini.
